I first came to Burnsid...Really good review Declan. I first came to Burnside with his novel Living Nowhere which I thought was superb. Like John I've found his early work loses its potency but his recent memoir A Lie About My Father gave me a whole new perspective on all his writing. I read Burnside's first three novels - <EM>The Dumb House, The Mercy Boys, The Locust Room</EM> - and liked each one a little less, so haven't read his subsequent books. I do still think him an interesting writer and in fact picked up <EM>Glister</EM> for a browse last week in the bookshop.
